Warm up

The most important of exercise routines is the warm up which is the complete physical and mental preparation for the dynamic actions to follow.  Warming up before the main exercise gradually increases the heart rate and, since muscles resist injury and perform better when they are warm, it increases muscle flexibility and joint suppleness.  When warming up, every body part should be warmed individually but, emphasis should be given to areas that will be concentrated on during training.

Benefits of warming up:

  • Stretch muscles and limber up joints
  • Increased blood flow to muscle tissue
  • Paces breathing to physical exertion and creates rhythm for main exercise
  • Prepares muscles for the stress of exercise
  • Prevents injury to joints and tissue
