Diet & it's Definition .....

The word diet is usually associated with days of starvation and pain. This however, is not the case. The word diet refers to the food choices we make on a daily basis. Even if you don’t think that you are on a diet, think again! Whether you eat chocolates and crisps all day or are eating high fibre flakes, you are following a diet - that is your diet.  Dieting is not about starving!  Fitness, and in particular health can never be fully achieved if the diet is poor - even without introducing exercise into your life, remarkable improvements can be achieved with diet.

Water is of utmost importance to any diet.  Most people do not consider water as food or have any importance to a healthy diet.  They underestimate the value of water.  Water is by far the most important food component you have - humans can live for weeks without food as we think of food but, will be dead in days without water.  It is by far the most abundant substance in our body.  Without water, an organism would not survive very long. Water is good for the following reasons:

  • The body is mainly made up of water
  • The kidneys need it to flush out toxins
  • Our temperature control system operated through surface sweating is reliant on water
  • The blood is composed of water
  • The brain contains water
  • Most of the muscle cell is water
  • It is needed for all the complex chemical reactions performed by your body on a daily basis, such as energy production, muscle building and fat burning - lack of water would interrupt all these processes.
  • Lubricates the joints

The list above is far from complete, the point is, this cleansing, lubricating, temperature controlling agent is vital to any diet.
